Rain Chances Head South

An isolated brief shower is possible early this evening, but there is not enough moisture in the atmosphere to cause any problems like yesterday. Most wet weather is in Florida, south of a front which brought the very heavy rains yesterday evening. This boundary will remain to our south into Thursday, before trying to drift back north before it dissipates. Enough moisture could return to produce some scattered downpours by the end of the week. Temperatures will be seasonable as we head into August, with highs near 90 Wednesday through Friday.

Not as Wet Today

Well, we need some rain across the area, but not all in one afternoon. Chatham County had flooding rain late yesterday afternoon and evening. The Savannah airport had 2.74” of rain. For today we’ll have a mix of sun and clouds with a slight chance for an afternoon thunderstorm. Our afternoon high will be near 92. Tonight lots of clouds with morning low near 72. On Wednesday a high pressure will be near Washington D.C. that will allow for a NE flow. Temperatures will be near 90 with a mix of sun and clouds. By Thursday a stalled out front to the south of the area will begin to drift to the north. The front will be in the area through the end of the week. There will be scattered showers and storms in the afternoon for Thursday through Friday, with afternoon highs near 90. The first weekend in August will be typical with a chance for afternoon storms, and temperatures in the lower 90’s. Have a good day!

Less Chance of Rain Tuesday

A frontal boundary in the area will combine with rich moisture in place to produce showers and thunderstorms this evening. Slow moving downpours are possible, so please exercise caution if caught on the road during any heavy rain. The frontal boundary will get pushed just to our south Tuesday, resulting in the best chance for rain moving just to our south as well, mainly south of Brunswick. Highs Tuesday will reach near 91. Beyond Tuesday, there is division in the computer models as to whether the leftover boundary could bring higher chances of rain back into the area. I think the best chances of rain will be to our south and in Florida, but I can't rule out scattered downpours any day Wednesday through Friday. Temperatures and humidity should be near normal as we head into August.

More Storms Today

Over the weekend we had strong storms that produced severe weather. We will have strong storms once again for today. For Monday, a mix of sun and clouds with showers and storms is likely. The afternoon high will be near 90. Evening showers and storms are likely, and some of the storms will be strong, then mostly cloudy, mild and muggy. Tonight’s lows will be near 74. Tuesday through Friday there will be scattered storms in the afternoon, as a stalled-out front will be in the area for the next several days. The afternoon highs will be near 90 and morning lows will be near 72.

Saturday Night we'll see A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Calm winds.

On Sunday we'll see a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 91. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

And on Sunday Night a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. Light southwest wind.

Friday, July 27, 2007

Afternoon Storms for the Weekend

The weekend will be hot and steamy. For Saturday and Sunday there will be a mix of sun and clouds, with scattered showers and storms each afternoon. The best chance for storms will be on Sunday afternoon. The storms may produce heavy rain, small hail, and gusty winds. The afternoon highs will be in the lower 90’s, and lows in the lower 70’s. There will be a trough of low pressure in the southeast over the first part of next week, so the unsettled weather will continue into Monday. On Monday a good chance for storms in the afternoon, with highs in the lower 90’s. As we end the month of July the tropics remain quite. I don’t see any tropical development for the next several days. Have a good and safe weekend!

Thursday, July 26, 2007

More Afternoon Storms

There was some severe weather across the area on Thursday. We will have more afternoon showers and storms on Friday. Some of the storms may be severe. Friday’s afternoon high will be in the lower 90’s. For Saturday and Sunday a mix of sun and clouds with scattered storms in the afternoon. High temperatures for the weekend will be near 92; with morning lows near 72. The best chance for storms will be on Sunday afternoon. Some of the storms over the weekend may be severe. Have a good Friday!

Feeling More Like Summer

The humidity has increased across the area and scattered downpours have resumed. Expect more of the same with subtle differences the next few days. Thursday will feature a mix of sun and clouds with highs approaching 90. Scattered downpours will be possible by midday and through the afternoon. Friday will be a little hotter with highs in the low 90s. The wind direction should be more from offshore, so any thunderstorm chance should be late in the day. Same over the weekend, sun and clouds, west to southwest breezes, and a chance for a late afternoon or evening thunderstorm. It looks like there may be a better chance of rain on Sunday than Saturday. Highs over the weekend will be at least in the low 90s, with mid 90s possible.

More Humidity for Today

The humidity will return today through the weekend. Today there will be a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the upper 80’s. Isolated showers will be possible. Typical summer time weather will be in the forecast Thursday through Sunday. Each afternoon there will be scattered showers and storms with highs in the lower 90’s. We need the rain across the area; Savannah is now 7.46” below average for the year. Have a good day!

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

More Humidity, Chance of Rain

Get ready for the usual high humidity to return as light breezes turn to the southeast and south and bring increasing moisture. This will also result in a chance of downpours returning to the area, mainly during the afternoons. Highs Wednesday may still remain below 90 in some spots due to cloud cover, but it will feel more steamy. Most areas will reach 90 on Thursday, with low 90s likely for Friday. The weekend should feature a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the low to mid 90s. An afternoon thunderstorm is possible either day; right now it looks like a better chance on Sunday.

Another Nice Day

The last few days has not felt like July. Yesterday highs were in the upper 80’s, and we will have temperatures in the upper 80’s today. There will be a few more clouds in the afternoon. Tonight, areas of clouds morning lows will be in the upper 60’s. The rainfall chances don’t look great this week. There maybe a few afternoon showers and storms Wednesday through Friday. We need the rain across the area; Savannah is 7.23” below average for the year. The weekend will be hot with a mix of sun and clouds; afternoon temperatures will be back into the mid 90’s. Enjoy the nice weather!

What a Nice Break

It has been very pleasant outside the last couple days, something unusual for July, not to mention it's happened twice (4th of July the other time). Temperatures and humdity will gradually increase as we head through the rest of the week. Highs will approach 90 on Tuesday, staying below 90 in most spots east of Interstate 95. Expect sunshine and some clouds, but little chance for rain. Temperatures will be near 90 on Wednesday with a mix of sun and clouds. A southeast breeze will bring a little more humidity and a chance of a stray downpour, mainly in the afternoon. It's back to typical July weather to finish the week; highs in the low 90s with a chance of a downpour.

Comfortable Temperatures Today

Last week we had heat and humidity, but for the next two days temperatures will be below average. For today, mostly sunny with afternoon highs will be near 88. Tuesday, mix of sun and clouds with a slight chance for showers in the afternoon, mainly south of Savannah. A weak front will lift north of the area on Wednesday. The front will allow for a better chance for afternoon showers and storms on Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will be warming back to seasonal averages by Thursday. Highs by the end of the week will be back into the lower 90’s. Have a good week!

Friday, July 20, 2007

Less Hot This Weekend

A cold front was approaching the area late Friday, setting off some more thunderstorms, which will move southeast of the area early in the evening. Temperatures will be lower this weekend, near 90 Saturday and the upper 80s Sunday. Expect a mix of sun and clouds; I expect a chance of rain to be mainly south of our area Saturday. As breezes turn to the southeast on Sunday, this may add enough moisture to set off an afternoon downpour. Heading into the new week, expect a mix of sun and clouds and a chance for a downpour, mainly during the afternoons.

Relief on the Way This Weekend

Thunderstorms will affect the area from west to east early this evening, then muggy conditions will be with us through the overnight. Friday will be another scorching hot day with highs reaching the mid to upper 90s. A cold front will approach from the northwest late Friday and Friday night. A west wind direction will limit moisture, but a thunderstorm will be possible anyway. The front will slide just to our south on Saturday. There may be a downpour in the area, but much of the day will feature a mix of sun and clouds and highs closer to 90. Temperatures may not quite reach 90 on Sunday and some slightly lower humidity is possible. Drink plenty of water if outdoors on Friday!

A Hot Afternoon

The heat and humidity will continue for today. The forecast for today, we will have lots of sunshine with temperatures near 96. A stray storm will be possible this afternoon. Tonight will be mild and muggy with lows near 74. I don’t see much of change into Friday, as a cold front will be moving our way. Saturday will be cooler with highs in the lower 90’s with a chance for showers and storms. The cold front will drop to the south of the area and stall out on Sunday. On Sunday, there will be a mix of sun and clouds with highs near 90. Have a nice day!!

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Very Hot But Some Relief Ahead

It will continue to be scorching hot Thursday and Friday with highs in the mid 90s and plenty of sunshine. A cold front will approach the area from the northwest late Friday, giving us a chance for scattered thunderstorms late Friday afternoon and evening. The front should move just to our south on Saturday, and depending on when the front gets through the area, there may be some scatterered downpours on Saturday. It will feel better over the weekend, as temperatures will drop a few degrees. If the front moves far enough to our south, we may also enjoy some lower humidity. Stay cool!

Another Hot and Humid Day

The heat will be back for the next few days. For today, mostly sunny through the morning then some clouds in the afternoon. The high will be near 96. Much of the same for Thursday, with lots of sunshine. The afternoon temperatures will be in the mid 90’s. I don’t see much of a chance for storms over the next two days, but with daytime heating there may be an isolated storm in the late afternoon. Friday’s weather will be hot highs near 94 with a mix of sun and clouds; there will be a slightly better chance for an isolated storm in the afternoon. A cold front will approach the area on Saturday; the front will allow a better chance for storms and cooler temperatures. Saturday won’t be as hot with highs near 90, and a mix of sun and clouds with scattered showers and storms in the afternoon. Sunday will be near 90 with scattered storms in the afternoon. Stay cool today!!

Tuesday, July 17, 2007

Sunshine and Hot Temperatures

If you like change, there doesn't appear to be much of that the next couple days. There will be plenty of sun with highs reaching the mid 90s Wednesday and Thursday, closer to 90 at the beaches. Afternoon downpour chances look rather low through Thursday; an isolated brief downpour is not out of the question. A cold front will approach the area Friday and give us a good chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Temperatures will drop off a few degrees over the weekend and there may be a lingering chance of wet weather. Stay in the shade!

Typical July Weather Today

We will see a repeat of Monday. There were a few storms yesterday afternoon; that will be the case for this afternoon. We will have a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the lower 90’s. For Wednesday, another day with a mix of sun and clouds with isolated storms in the afternoon. The afternoon highs will be near 93. From Thursday through the weekend, there will be scattered storms in the afternoon with morning lows in the mid 70’s, and highs in the lower 90’s. I’ve had several people ask why we are not talking about the tropics; well, that’s because there’s nothing going on in the tropics. I don’t see tropical development for the next seven days. Have a good Tuesday!

Monday, July 16, 2007

Steamy Weather Continues

Typical July heat and humidity continues through the week with high temperatures remaining mostly in the low 90s. Lows at night will reach down into the low to mid 70s. Most days there will be a chance for a downpour in the afternoon or evening. It appears Tuesday there will be a better chance than what we saw Monday. Activity on Wednesday and Thursday should be isolated or widely scattered. The computer models are showing a cold front approaching from the northwest at the end of the week, which would bring higher chances of afternoon thunderstorms Friday.

Another Humid Day

We did get some much-needed rain on Saturday. There was a nice lightning show on Saturday afternoon and evening. Some areas had over 1.00” of rain on Saturday. As we start the new workweek, there will be a good chance of rain by the middle to end of the week. For today, mix of sun and clouds with a slight chance for an afternoon storm. Afternoon high will be near 92. Tonight there will be evening clouds, mild, and muggy. The low temperatures will be near 74. Not much of a change on Tuesday, then we get into unsettled weather for Wednesday into the weekend. Wednesday through Friday there will be scattered showers and storms. The temperatures will be lower 90’s in the day, and the mid 70’s at night. Have a good week!

Friday, July 13, 2007

Wetter and Less Hot This Weekend

Scattered downpours will return to the forecast this weekend, mainly during the afternoons and evenings. More clouds and higher rain chances will result in lower temperatures, but the humidity will remain high. Highs both Saturday and Sunday will be near 90. Expect seasonably hot and humid conditions early next week with less coverage of downpours. Remember, if you hear thunder you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Have a good weekend!

Hazy-Hot-Humid for Friday the 13th

One more day with afternoon temperatures in the mid 90’s, before a little cool down for the weekend. A stalled out front will be in the area over the weekend. The front will allow for a good chance for afternoon showers and storms. For today, hazy, hot, and humid with a mix of sun and clouds, the high will be near 95. Tonight will be mild and muggy with mostly cloudy skies, a low near 74. Saturday will not be as hot with a high of 89, and scattered showers and storms likely, mainly in the afternoon. Sunday much of the same with unsettled weather in the afternoon, and highs will be in the upper 80’s. The rain over the weekend is much needed. The Savannah airport is 6.31” below average for the year. Monday there will be a few storms in the afternoon, with highs near 91 in the afternoon. Have a good weekend!

Thursday, July 12, 2007

A Repeat for Friday

Atmospheric conditions will remain nearly the same for Friday, so expect sunshine and highs reaching the mid 90s. Rain chances look very low. Moisture will increase and the air mass will be a little more unstable over the weekend, so expect scattered coverage of downpours both afternoons. High temperatures will be closer to 90 over the weekend due to more clouds in the area and higher chances of rain. Have a great Friday!

More Heat for Today

The strong storms that passed through last night has pushed well to the east of the area. Today we will have a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the mid-90’s. Friday will be much the same with hot and humid conditions with highs near 94 and low near 72. The weekend looks to be unsettled with a front stalled out over the area; there will be a good chance for showers and storms for Saturday and Sunday. The temperatures will be a little cooler for the weekend with highs near 90 and lows near 72.

Wednesday, July 11, 2007

Storms Rumble Through

Thunderstorms developed out to our west Wednesday afternoon and rumbled through the area late in the afternoon and early evening. The disturbance which caused the activity will move off the coast overnight. Thursday will be another hot day with highs up to near 94. There will only be a slight chance of a thundershower, as there won't be much of a trigger to get things going. Friday and Saturday should offer a better chance of afternoon and evening downpours as a weak front stalls to our north. Temperatures will be near the mid 90s again Friday, then closer to 90 Saturday with more clouds and higher afternoon rain chances.

Heat Advisory for Today

Another hot day all across the area, we will have lots of sun in the morning then a mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon. Today’s highs will be near 96 with a heat index of 105. For tonight, mostly cloudy with isolated storms possible, the morning low will be near 75. The hot weather will continue into Thursday with sun and clouds mix. Temperatures will warm up to the mid 90’s. There will be a cold front moving slowly into the area from the west. The front will stall out over the area from Friday into the weekend. With the front in the area over Friday into through the weekend there will be a better chance for storms in the afternoon. High temperatures for the weekend will be near 90, and morning lows in the mid 70’s. Have a good day!

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

Very Hot Conditions Continue

Temperatures will once again reach into the mid 90s Wednesday, which will feel like 100-105 in the afternoon when you factor in the humidity. A disturbance will push through the area Wednesday night and may set off scattered thunderstorms. Expect another hot day on Thursday with just a slight chance of a thunderstorm. A front will stall out in the area, causing an increase in our chances for mainly afternoon/evening thunderstorms Friday and Saturday. With more clouds and higher rain chances, temperatures will top out in the low 90s Friday and near 90 on Saturday. Stay in the shade!

A Hot & Humid Day

Temperatures will be hot today. There will be a mix of sun and clouds with hot and humid conditions. The afternoon highs will be in the mid 90’s with heat index near 100. There will be a slight chance for an afternoon shower or storm along the sea breeze. On Wednesday and Thursday, there will not be much of a change with the hot weather. We will have cooler temperatures in the afternoon on Friday with more clouds in the afternoon. High on Friday will be in the lower 90’s with scattered storms in the afternoon. The weekend will be unsettled with scattered showers and storms mainly in the afternoon. High temperatures over the weekend will be near 90. The morning lows over the next five days will be in the mid 70’s. Stay cool today!

Monday, July 9, 2007

The heat will be on in full force this week, typical for the middle of July. The humidity has ramped up, which will make outdoor activities uncomfortable. Expect highs in the mid 90s Tuesday through Thursday, which will feel like between 100 and 105 during the early to mid-afternoon hours. There is just a slight chance of a late day thunderstorm Tuesday, with less chance on Wednesday. Then chances will begin to increase Thursday and moreso on Friday as a front slowly approaches from the northwest. Temperatures will drop slightly Friday and Saturday due to more cloud cover developing along with higher chances for rain. Try to limit outdoor activities during the afternoon. If you are going to be out there, wear sunscreen and drink lots of water.

Hot and Humid for the Week

For today, there will be a mix of sun and clouds with showers and storms in the afternoon. Today’s highs will be in the lower 90’s. The storms may still be in the area for the evening, then mostly cloudy, mild, and muggy. Tonight’s lows will be in the mid 70’s. The heat and humidity will be around for Tuesday through the end of the week. There will be a mix of sun and clouds with isolated storms in the afternoon. Afternoon high temperatures will be in the mid 90’s and morning lows in the mid 70’s. The chances for afternoon storms increase by the end of the workweek. Have a good week!

Friday, July 6, 2007

A Steamy Weekend

It will be a very humid weekend, so plan on drinking plenty of water if you're going to be outside. Highs will be in the low 90s through Sunday, possibly a little lower if there's enough cloud cover. The temperature won't matter much, though, the humidity will make up for it. A series of disturbances moving west to east will give the area some scattered downpours. The best chance will be in the afternoons or evenings, though there could be some showers during Saturday night and Sunday morning as well. Make sure to get out of the pool and go inside if you hear thunder. Have a great weekend!

Back to Typical Savannah Summer Weather: Hot & Humid

Today we will get back in the "groove" of a typical Savannah summer afternoon. Today's highs will be in the mid ninties. Tonight will be just as humid with a low in the lower seventies. So, it will be a hot day, with a very slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. This weekend, we should see highs in the lower ninties with that chance of showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. On Saturday, the chance should be slightly lower than Sunday, when we will see scattered showers and thunderstorms. Then by monday, we should see that chance of rain diminish into a very slight chance of rain. Next week, we should see highs in the mid to lower ninties, upper eighties along the beaches.

Thursday, July 5, 2007

Feeling Like Summer Again

The humidity has increased and temperatures are getting hotter also. Friday we'll see highs reaching the low to mid 90s under plenty of sunshine. A cold front will stall to our north Saturday. Ahead of the front, it looks like pieces of energy from a disturbance in Texas will get pulled east by upper-level winds. This will likely give the area some scattered showers and thunderstorms beginning late Saturday. Chances for wet weather will be off and on Saturday night through Sunday. If enough clouds move overhead, this could hold temperatures down some, but right now it looks like we should reach the low 90s each day.

Hotter Temperatures Set to Return

Hello and Happy 4th of July! It's been a nice (and unusual) break from the heat the last couple days. Things are about to change, though, and it will happen quickly. Breezes will be lighter out of the east or southeast Thursday, and high temperatures will approach 90. Areas west of Interstate 95 will likely reach the low 90s. Breezes then abruptly turn to the southwest for Friday, sending high temperatures into the mid 90s. So it's back to reality, with hot and humid conditions over the weekend.

Happy 4th of July!

A nice day on tap for the area; there will be a mix of sun and clouds with afternoon temperatures in the mid-80’s. If your plans take you to the beach today, be careful, there is a high rip current risk for area beaches. Great weather for the fireworks tonight, temperatures will be comfortable under mostly clear skies. On Thursday, temperatures will begin to warm back to near 90. Friday and Saturday the heat will return with highs in the mid 90’s and lows in the lower/mid 70’s. The best chance of rain for the next five days will be on Sunday. Be Safe and have a great 4th of July!

Tuesday, July 3, 2007

Pleasant for the Holiday

East breezes will continue through Wednesday. This along with low humidity for this time of year will make it feel pleasant. The only negative will be a higher risk of rip currents at the beaches, so please be careful out there! High temperatures will be close to 86 with a mix of sun and clouds. Hotter weather will return Thursday with highs reaching 90 in many spots, then approaching the mid 90s Friday. The weekend looks typically hot and humid for July with highs in the low to mid 90s.

Below Average Temperatures

A nice refreshing air mass has moved into the area. A high pressure from the north will build our way. Drier and cooler air will dominate the forecast for the next two days. For today, more clouds than sun with isolated showers and breezy, afternoon highs will be near 84. The 4th of July is looking nice with a mix of sun and clouds, with afternoon highs will be near 86. The warm up will begin on Thursday with sun and clouds and temperatures will be back to near 90. By the end of the work week temperatures will feel more like July, with highs in the mid-90’s. Morning lows for much of the week will be near 70. Have a good day!

Monday, July 2, 2007

An Unusual July Cooldown

A cold front was located between Savannah and the Florida border late Monday afternoon. This front will continue to slowly drift south overnight and Tuesday. Rain chances will decrease from north to south through Tuesday, with only a slight chance of showers in the Savannah area on Tuesday. Clouds will persist, though, and this combined with easterly breezes will make it feel unusually pleasant for July. Highs Tuesday will only be in the low to mid 80s. Temperatures will be a couple degrees higher for the 4th of July with a little more sun. Again, there will be only a slight chance of a shower or thundershower that day. It will turn hotter Thursday and Friday with highs reaching above 90 Thursday and into the mid 90s Friday.

More Heavy Rain Today

For today, we will have a mix of sun and clouds in the morning then becoming mostly cloudy. Showers and storms will be likely this afternoon. Some of the storms will be strong with heavy rain and gusty winds. Today’s high will be in the mid-80’s. There will be a front just south of the area on Tuesday that will produce scattered showers. High for Tuesday will be near 86. Independence day there will be less chance for rain. There will be a mix of sun and clouds with an afternoon high of 90. Have a good day!
