Pleasant Days and Chilly Nights

Plenty of sunshine can be expected this weekend with daytime highs in the low to mid 70s and nighttime lows dropping well down into the 40s. Breezes will be lighter than they have been, adding to the pleasant feel during the afternoons. It will be a little warmer on Monday before a cold front arrives Tuesday, bringing the coolest air of the fall season our way by Wednesday.

Tropics:

The National Hurricane Center has issued its last advisory on Hurricane Noel, although the system remains an intense winter-type low pressure area as it moves north-northeast, parallelling the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast coastline. When a system transitions from tropical to non-tropical, the wind field spreads out more to the west of the storm center. Therefore, coastal locations of the northeast are in for a very windy Saturday. The storm should move into the Canadian Maritimes with hurricane force winds Saturday night.

A Nice Fall Weekend

For today, we will have a lot of sunny with breezy conditions. The high will be in the lower 70’s. Hurricane Noel will produce gusty winds along the coast with high surf and rough seas. A gale warring is in effect for today. For tonight, it will be a great night for football games; with clear skies lows will be 46-50. Saturday and Sunday we’ll have sunny blue skies with highs 72-74. I don’t see much in the way of rain anytime soon. The first of next week will be warm, but a strong cold front will pass through late Monday, the front will bring the coldest air of the season by Wednesday. Have a good Weekend!!

Tropics:

Hurricane Noel:

Noel is a hurricane this morning, but will become an extra-tropical storm by tonight/Saturday. Noel will bring strong winds to the New England coast by late tonight and Saturday. As Noel lifts northeast today it will run into cooler water temperatures and strong upper level winds. Since Noel will become extra-tropical, a much lager area will be affected by strong winds. In a hurricane the strongest winds are around the center (eye) of the storm, but for an extra-tropical low the winds are spread out much further away from the center. That is why there will be a much larger area affected by Noel. That was a little Meteorology 101 for you today.

Cooler and Breezy for Friday

The combination of a new area of high pressure building in to our north and "Noel" passing well to our east Friday will produce breezy conditions for our area, mainly along the coast. Otherwise, expect a good amount of sunshine and cooler temperatures for Friday, with highs struggling to get above 70. Friday night lows will drop to 45-50 under mostly clear skies. The weekend will be sunny with highs in the low 70s and a chilly Saturday night low in the 42-45 range.

Tropics:

"Noel" has become a category one hurricane and will continue to move quickly north -northeast on Friday, away from the Bahamas and staying well to our east. Still the combination of north flow behind the storm and new high pressure building in could produce gale force gusts over the outer portions of the coastal waters. The storm itself will transition to and strengthen as a very large winter-type low as it heads north, and latest track models show it bringing very windy conditions to portions of the northeast Saturday and possibly tracking into the Canadian Maritimes Saturday night with hurricane force winds and heavy rain.

Warm First Day of November

We will start the month of November off warm. For today, there will be a mix of sun and clouds with warm afternoon temperatures. The high for today will be 78-80. For tonight, we’ll have mostly clear skies and cooler temperatures. The low will drop down into the mid 50’s. A cold front will pass through the area early Friday morning. The front will bring much cooler air for Friday into the weekend. For tomorrow, there will be mostly sunny skies with highs about 10 degrees cooler than today. The high will be near 70. The weekend will be very nice with a lot of sun. The highs will be 72-74, and lows in the mid 40’s. Enjoy the warm weather today!

Tropics:

Tropical Storm Noel:

Tropical Storm Noel is producing flooding rain for the Bahamas today. Noel is producing 60 mph winds, and is now turning to the northeast. The tropical storm watch for Florida has been cancelled. Noel will get pick up by a cold front late Friday. Noel will become a non-tropical system by Saturday. The effects from Noel in our area will be the seas along the coast will be high. There is a small craft advisory that is up for the coastal waters. There have been 80 deaths from tropical storm Noel since Saturday.
