Hurricane Felix:
Felix made landfall this morning as a category five storm along the Nicaragua coast. Felix will continue moving west into Mexico, and become a tropical depression by early Friday morning. Felix is the second category five hurricane to make landfall this season.
Low Pressure (99L):
The low that brought us the rain over the weekend is 350 miles east of Jacksonville, FL. The low is a non-tropical low, however, it has a good chance to develop into a tropical depression over the next few days. The low will be slow to develop due to mid-level dry air that’s moving into the northwestern side of the low. Many of the computer models develop the low into a tropical storm by the weekend. The models also drift the low east, and then move the low north. On this track the low will stay well east of our area. However, things could change with the track of the developing low, so stay tuned into the Future Trak weather center for the latest.

A Chance to Dry Out
Much drier air is pushing in from the north and will make for some pleasant days through the middle of the week. Temperatures will reach near or just above 90, but the humidity will be much lower than it has been recently. Expect plenty of sunshine through at least Thursday.
Low pressure that helped bring the heavy rains to our area this weekend is pushing east in the Atlantic, roughly along 30 degrees latitude. There is a good chance for development into a tropical system in the next couple days as it continues to move east to a point a few hundred miles to our east by Wednesday night. Then most computer models develop a blocking high pressure to prevent the system from totally going out to sea for a while.
Elsewhere in the tropics:
Powerful Hurricane Felix is bearing down on Honduras. It will continue to track mainly west and weaken over land, with all effects staying well south of the United States.

Dry Weather for the Week
After the heavy rain over the weekend we will see drier weather for much of the week. Many areas along the coast had 5-10” of rain this past weekend. There were many reports of flooded roads. The good news is we will have a dry day for your Labor Day. For today, a mix of sun and clouds, and the high will be near 88. Tonight we’ll have mostly clear skies with lows near 68. Tuesday through Friday we’ll have lots of sun with warm temperatures. The highs for much of the week will be near 90. Have a good Labor Day!!

Wet Weekend Ahead
A front stalling in the area this weekend will combine with plenty of moisture around to produce beneficial rains across the area. Skies will stay mostly cloudy, which will keep temperatures down, struggling to reach the mid 80s for highs. The clouds and cooler temperatures will limit chances of thunder, but the showers themselves will produce heavy downpours. Be careful if driving in areas of heavy rain! A little more sun could come out on Monday, and rain chances should decrease as we head through the first couple days of the new week.
Tropics:
A new depression has formed just north of South America near the Windward Islands. It is expected to become a tropical storm (Felix) this weekend. The track will remain generally west and the long-range outlook keeps it well south of the United States.

Wet Weather for the Weekend
There is a surface low-pressure system in the southeast. The low will not move much over the next few days. Also, there is a cold front that will move through on Saturday. The low and cold front will allow for unsettled weather over the holiday weekend. For today, more clouds than sun with showers and storms likely. The rain may be heavy at times. The afternoon high will be in the upper 80’s. Tonight’s forecast will be mild and muggy with scattered showers and storms. The low will be near 73. For Saturday and Sunday we’ll have lots of clouds with a good chance for showers and storms, mainly in the afternoon. The high temperatures for the weekend will be 86-88. For Labor Day, we’ll have mix of sun and clouds with scattered showers and storms. The afternoon high will be in the upper 80’s. So, there will be a good chance for showers/storms over the holiday. If you are making plans for outdoor activities the best time to get them in will be in the morning. Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!!

I think the only area that will have the best chance to develop will be the tropical wave (94l) that is just east of the Windward Islands. The wave is gaining thunderstorms around the center, and I would not be surprised to see the wave become a tropical depression today. If the wave develops it will continue on its westerly motion into the Caribbean. The models that develop the wave show it making a west track into the western Caribbean, and having no impact on the United States.
